'Velvet blush' are an all girl four piece from Nottingham, and your next favourite band. On Valentine's day this year, the girls dropped a new single 'Big Dreams'. Beginning slowly, vocalist Jess Beer serenades us, before Heather Briggs guitars pick up, screeching through this killer track, leading up to a monster of a bass riff from Emmie Sheeran at 1:16 that I can't get enough of, all tied together by Connie Say let's drumming. Drawing grunge/rock elements of Courtney Barnett's music, or the heavier wolf alice tracks with more poppy sounds of 'The Big Moon', and in the end landing with distorted, grunge pop tunes somewhat similar to Pip Blom, yet with twice the swagger, and memorable riffs. Velvet Blush's live gigs sound as good as in the studio. These girls are an excellent group, in a scene heavily weighted towards men, showing just how good the girls are, as they walk on their path to the big time. Certainly a band to keep an eye on and to go and see live if you get the chance.
